A FIERCE ADVOCATE FOR HUMANS, I GUIDE PEOPLE TO THEIR GOALS.

I iterate, explore directions, do a little bit of research, and lot of design. I enjoy building pattern libraries and design systems to make tomorrow’s work better. I simplify complex things. Together we can build a demo to identify and work through difficult problems, or take everyone on a journey with a whiteboard and some Post-Its.

An upbeat attitude and humor come standard. I take the work, but not myself, seriously. Expect researched and measurable design outcomes, art history references, Dad jokes, and dog pictures.

WHAT I’VE BEEN UP TO RECENTLY

Stavvy

Staff Product Designer | August 2023 - Today
Senior Product Designer | August 2022 - 2023

In my role as a Staff Product Designer at Stavvy, I led design retrospectives and peer review sessions to support the Product and Design teams. Advocating for UXR and data-driven design decisions, I collaborated with PMs, Research, and fellow designers to create proof of concept demos for new business avenues.

Prior to that, as Senior Product Design, I spearheaded a groundbreaking project to revolutionize documentation control and security for mortgage origination companies. Working closely with subject matter experts, developers, and project managers, we successfully streamlined workflows, reduced steps, and applied automation to tedious tasks. Our efforts allowed us to be in contention for the largest government contract in the company's history, showcasing the impact of our innovative solutions.

Operation Camp

Board member, Design, Logistics, & Manual Labor | Jan 2012 – Today

We’re a small (single-digit headcount) non-profit organization that raises money to send children of fallen US service members to summer camps at little or no cost to the surviving parent or guardian. We’ve sent 100 kids in ten years. We can't take away their grief, but we can give them a place to make new friends, skills, and memories - and a chance for their caretakers to rest.

I designed and maintain the website, help plan and facilitate fundraisers, build obstacle courses, and entertain kids. The toughest work is explaining to folks why we do it, and why it’s important.

Learn more at OperationCamp.org, or ask me and I’ll tell you the story. You’ll want some tissues on hand.

Global ID

Lead UX DesignER

Feb 2021 – June 2022

Your identity is your permission to act, your right, and your responsibility.

Global iD is a portable, self-sovereign identity that’s tied to a unique name and a non-custodial wallet.

As part of a tightly-knit team of designers and testers, I was the design lead on Onboarding and Fintech partner outreach projects, while I supported design efforts across Identity, Profile, and Credentials.

Chewy

Lead UX DesignER

Apr 2019 – Jan 2021

My client was, first and foremost, the pet parents that came to Chewy.com.

As Lead UX on the Chewy storefront, I partnered with product teams in multiple business verticals, and lead a talented, cross-vertical team of UX and Content Designers on Chewy’s Gift Cards rollout. Later, I partnered with the Cart & Checkout team to support cart building, reduce friction during checkout, and give customers more payment options in desktop, mobile web, and native mobile experiences.

Senior UX DesignER

Feb 2017 - Apr 2019

Designed the tools that ran Chewy.

Chewy is known for its customer service, and I worked directly with Customer Service Representatives, and their Director, to create tools for the Customer Service, Rx Fulfillment, Merchandizing, Shipping, and Warehouse Logistics teams.

By interviewing and shadowing the folks using the systems, I created workflows that reduced complexity and clicks. Working alongside the developers reduced the time it took to make those designs a reality. The resulting tools lessened cognitive load, and cut time on task.

This created more space for the CSRs to talk about customer’s pets, which is way more fun than chasing spreadsheets around.

PREVIOUSLY

Vitals

UX Lead | Nov 2015 – Aug 2016

As UX Lead, I collaborated with Product and Development Teams to design mood boards, user flows, and wireframes. I would then swap hats to work alongside the development team to take those designs from flat concepts to working HTML5, CSS, and JS prototypes.

SeaChange International

UX Lead | Nov 2015 – Aug 2016

Lead visual and interactive designer for a three-person UX design, research, and demo building team.

DataXu

Senior UX Design | Oct 2013 – Nov 2015

As "the UX Guy" in Product, I led all platform interface design and user flow improvements, and worked with Product Management and Developers to build the platform that saved advertisers and ad agencies millions of dollars every year by eliminating redundant technology, overlapping analytics and exorbitant data fees across multiple content channels.

DataXu rebranded as dataxu, and was acquired by Roku in 2019.

Optaros

UX Design | May 2008 – Sep 2010

Designed and built more than fifty proof-of-concept demos to illustrate and expand the company’s core competencies, and land new business. Creative lead for redesigning the corporate website for easier content management, improved browser performance, visitor tracking, and accessibility.

Monster

Senior UX Designer | Jun 2006 – Apr 2008

2006 Webby People's Choice Award for the redesigned Career Advice microsite. Our small-but-mighty multidisciplinary team iteratively refined the Job Seeker experience based on user data and constant user testing.

CellExchange

Senior UX Designer | Jan 2005 – Jun 2006

Designed and prototyped the logistics and virtual personnel management web application for the United States Air Force. This experience sharpened my understanding of accessibility and is how I became an advocate for the then-emerging web standards movement.

TimeØ / Perot Systems

UI Designer | May 1998 – Feb 2001

Designed the public-facing and administrative interfaces for several successful banking and B2BEC web applications. Lead designer for marketing efforts, collaborating with our external PR partner to develop our corporate website, presentations, online demos, print materials, and conference booths.
